Sick at new job RSS feed

Anonymous
It's only my second week at my new job, and I'm feeling so nauseated. Honestly I could go vomit right now but there's no telling if that will make it better or worse (it really can go either way when I'm feeling like this, depending on the bug I guess). I'm not sure what advice to seek, really... I just don't want to appear unreliable if I end up getting sicker and have to call in tomorrow. Also I don't know if I should mention it when DB gets home-- he'll be working from home for the last couple hours of my day today. Thoughts?

Let them know how you are feeling, otherwise you will most definitely appear unreliable if you call in. Plus, they should be able to make the decision of they want you working with the kids when sick. Stomach bugs are contagious.

I agree w/ this advice. I'm an MB and I'd want you to tell me. People get sick - it happens. While this is early in your tenure, it also is a chance for you to be straight-forward and start establishing a good working relationship.

Hope you feel better quickly!

OP, this happens to me with almost every new job I start. Within the first 2-3 weeks I come down with a bug. I believe in being honest and upfront with how you are feeling to your bosses. Let them decide if you should take the day off tomorrow if you still aren't well. If you have sick days and need to use one, that's what they are for. I hope you feel better soon.
