The family I work for is VERY minimalist if and doesn't own much of the standard gear I have generally always had access to. They live right on the beach and I spend a lot of time with charges at the beach. I am thinking of buying my own pop up sun shade for the baby. They have a huge tent that I have access to but it's too big and too much work to set up for a fast hour long stop at the beach. I wouldn't feel right asking them to purchase another though. Do any of you nannies purchase any of your own gear to use? |
Yep.
I have my own double stroller, diaper bag, and a few odds and ends I keep in my car and at home incase of an emergency. |
I get stuff from the thrift store sometimes, but 9/10 times I just talk to my boss and she offers to buy whatever I think we need. In a case like this, protecting the baby from the sun is their responsibility as parents and it would be completely appropriate to ask them to purchase a beach-sized shade for her. |
If they can afford to live right on the beach, they can afford to buy their baby a sunshade. Get over it and just tell them exactly what you'd like. Don't they give you a credit card for stuff like this? |
OP here: Haha! Nope definitely don't have a credit card! I have never had a credit card as a nanny as I have ally worked with young children, before school age. I specialize in infant care. They already have a sunshade so I would never expect them to buy another just for my ease of use being one person for short beach trips. I own my own diaper bag and a few extra things, was just wondering if other nannies feel more comfortable owning some of their own things as well... |
What are you even talking about? Of course they'd want to buy the sun shade, they WANT you and the baby to be able to enjoy the beach! |
I would only consider purchasing supplies if it was something I could use for other families as well like a diaper bag or stroller. If you think you would use the shade after working with dc then go for it and avoid the awkward situation of asking them to buy it. BUTTTT if you think this might be a reoccurring issue with mb I would bring it up now. |
This is ridiculous. You work for them and these are items needed for to take care of their children and totally the responsibility of the parents. |
