Care.com needs to get their s*** together. RSS feed

They really need to monitor the people posting job offers, I've come across numerous families who think it's perfectly reasonable to pay a nanny $5 an hour working with three children full-time. If you cannot afford a nanny, do not get one. These people will most likely never find a nanny, and if they do she probably won't be qualified.

will you shut up already? don't apply to those jobs if it bothers you, care.com doesn't care that you're mad and neither do we.

It'd be great if Care.com built in some sort of program that, when parents put in their location, Care immediately popped up a sign saying, "Minimum wage in the state of [wherever they are] is $7.40 per hour."

And if anyone tried to say they would pay below that, it wouldn't let them continue to post their ad.

Quit replying to yourself.

They should know that they have people trying to hire under illegal wages.

That would be great if the parents had to post minimum wage pay. I think some parents get confused with the daycare rate to that of a nanny due to the $5 option.

I agree. These childcare websites that allow below minimum wage options are just enabling these cheap and stupid families.

If you are not applying to these jobs, why are you so worried about it?

Seriously, get over it, OP. This is not your problem.

Because it's illegal. Also, because I waste my time looking through these job offers.

You don't get how care.com works, do you?

It's a site for parents who want to hire a nanny on teenage baby-sitter wages.

I was kicked off care.com for telling someone that $1.33/hr was both illegal and unacceptable!

So sad. Go through an agency then.

But $5 and hour is a perfectly legal rate for a live in.

No. LI (and LO) nannies are legally entitled to be paid the minimum wage of the state where they work. It's in the Fair Labor Standards Act.

****And yes, some parents choose to withhold room and board. They are generally people who feel entitled to a nanny although they can't afford one, or they are simply seeking any and all ways to skimp on childcare costs. They also tend to go through nannies at the rate of one every few months, assuming they allow nanny to leave the house and talk with other nannies who then tell her she's being royally screwed.
