I'm a nanny have a great job that I've been at happily for four years but still use care.com for occasional gigs/pet sitting jobs on the side. About a month ago I had someone email me about a job that was clearly not within the hours I have under my availability, but it's not a big deal, I receive quite a few of these read them, respond with a very polite decline in regards to my schedule, and move on.
For whatever reason this week I had read the message through my email but had been caught up in a busy work and school schedule and forgot to ever log back on to care to email the inquiring family back. Exactly 6 days after they emailed me, I received negative feedback, saying I was irresponsible because I'd promised on my profile (which was made over 7 years ago) to respond within 2 days and I hadn't responded to them in nearly a week. I'm just so mad about this review. It's my only one so now my profile shows an awesome one star! I don't find most of my long term jobs on here so it's difficult for me to ask for other reviews. I just think it was really unnecessary for me to receive a review about not responding...we'd never spoken before, she knew nothing about me, my life at the time, and now this reflects on my ability to get jobs through care. What's everyone's thoughts here? Was the mom justified? I'm looking for honest opinions so give 'em to me! ![]() |
Definitely unwarranted. As a nanny, I have no expectations of a family until they've responded back to my initial communication, and I expect the same in return. |
No, that's nonsense, not your fault at all. Some parents on a power trip is all. ![]() |
Boycot sittercity and care.com. It's the only thing that will really work for both the nannies and the MBs. |
Douche parent. I use Care for side gigs as well, and also get parents who contact me with hours/rates that I will not work for. Totally unreasonable for thm to leave a review. |
It doesn't matter if you created your profile 17 years ago - if it's your profile then you are obligated to stand by everything you say in it. If things have changed in your life, then you need to update your profile.
YOU made a mistake,, and got dinged for it. That's why you're upset. You're upset with yourself, really. |
Do you respond to every application to your ad? Especially if its obvious they didn't even read it? Care.com forces nannies to agree to respond in 48 hours. |
Yeah, it doesn't specificy on my profile as in something I added like "if you message me i promise I will respond within 48 hours" it's something care.com has you add in and they suggest you click on 48 hours or less, it's really unnecessary. |
So you really think that a review compromising someone else's chance at a job was worth it? |
just delete your profile and create another one. it's really that easy . |
Not OP, but my profile is over 5 years old with more than 10 reviews. If I started over, the chance of someone hiring me with my new profile would be like 2% vs my profile now. |
You can reply to the review, just a simple I was busy and unfortunately overlooked your email...sorry, that kind of BS. Maybe it will be good in the long run and the negative add will serve as a filter for parents who would be inclined to do the same (whom you would clearly not want to work with!). Sorry this happened, how unfortunate that people feel entitled to their damaging opinion without having ever met you. |
Parents shouldn't be able to review you unless there's proff of more than 2-3 exchanges and those exchanges specifically set up a meeting time. Ypu shouldn't be allowed to review someone you've never even met. |
