Part-time Babysitter Tax Question RSS feed

[Sorry I realized this post would be better suited here]

We recently hired a babysitter to work 8-10 hours a week taking care of our daughter. I was aware of the rule that you needed to withhold taxes if you pay someone more than $1000 a quarter of $1800 in a year. I didn't worry about taxes initially because we weren't sure the babysitter was going to work out but now we're comfortable with her and it looks like she's here to stay. So I have a couple of tax questions:

1) What is the easiest (and most affordable) way to set up taxes for our babysitter?

2) How do I deal with the portion of money that we've already paid? For example, we'll start withholding taxes soon but what do we do about the money that we had paid previously?

Thanks!

Call GTM Payroll Services - 1-888-432-7972 or go to www.gtm.com. They can set you up to withhold taxes going forward and if you give them what you've paid to date, they can get you caught up with those wages too.

There are several nanny or babysitter payroll services. 4nannytaxes is local and you can call and chat with them too. I agree with the PP that you will have to get caught up so it is probably a case of sooner rather than later.
