I posted this in the wrong section, sorry!
I will be traveling for 3 days with my MB and my 5 month old charge. I have done a couple of random trips with previous families but never made a set amount for them, the previous family always just gave me a very nice bonus, more than fair. I will be flying with them, spending the day at a work even with MB caring for the baby (she will BF for feedings as she does working from home) and flying back on the third day. Besides my normal pay, what is the norm for compensation while traveling with MB for work? Thanks!! |
Maybe they'll be nice and give a bonus! |
Is the trip during days you normally work? Will you be working more hours or hours different from your standard working hours? And will you have your own bedroom separate from MB and the baby?
At the very least, all your meals need to be covered, and you should be paid your hourly rate for any extra hours in addition to your weekly salary. If you do not have a separate room, you should be given an overnight rate as well. |
+1 I have the same questions and without knowing the answers to them I would offer the same guidelines. |
OP here, my meals will be covered. I will be working different hours, but less number of hours while I am with them on the trip. I will technically be hanging out with them but will not be responsible for the baby most of the time, more just a second set of hands. Not yet sure about room or food arrangements. I am sure all meals will be covered since they cover my food normally while at work. (I'm a live out but they provide my lunch foods) I'll sit and chat with MB today and get more details. I work for an amazing family so I am sure they will make it more than fair and I enjoy spending time with MB so it won't be weird at all. Just wondering if any of you had similar experiences and it worked out. ![]() |
I pay for however many hours he is watching the baby, plus the hours of travel. |
I don't think there is a norm for this, OP. You should get your regular pay, plus meals and reimbursement of travel expenses. Beyond that, I would not pay extra for the same reasons that the MB does not get paid extra when she needs to travel for work. Travel is part of the job. |
I accompany MB on monthy trips for business. They are usually 3-4 nights. The baby is 7 mos old. I am paid my normal hours plus $75 a night as a travel fee plus she pays for all of my expenses. It works out really well.... |
We have traveled with our nanny and usually pay double her daily rate, but only because with travel hours, working hours etc, it ends up being a lot and trying to keep a ledger was really complicated |
That would depend on if travel is normally a part of her job or not. If it was mentioned in the interview and negotiations, then yes it is part of the job. If not, then the nanny is doing her MB a favor by travelling with them. There should be normal daytime hours paid at the minimum, and if you work more daytime hours then those normally used, they will be paid for as well at normal hourly rate. If you are working less than normal daytime hours, you should be paid for the hours you normally get paid for while working at their home (if it is normally at least 8 hours per day, then 8 shall be paid for even if you only work 5 each day while travelling). If you are expected to wake up with the kids during the night, then a nighttime fee should be used but not necessarily if the nanny has the whole (night) time to herself. All basic food and travel fees should be covered. |
