Traveling with MB and infant, questions... RSS feed

I will be traveling for 3 days with my MB and my 5 month old charge. I have done a couple of random trips with previous families but never made a set amount for them, the previous family always just gave me a very nice bonus, more than fair. I will be flying with them, spending the day at a work even with MB caring for the baby (she will BF for feedings as she does working from home) and flying back on the third day. Besides my normal pay, what is the norm for compensation while traveling with MB for work?

You really need to consider what you want and discuss it with her asap. Find out if you'll have free time on your own.

OP here, sorry I accidentally have this going in 2 different forums. I have received travel bonuses with all previous families and expect to be compensated for having to be away from home. My home time is important to me, why would I not be paid extra for having to be away from home for 3 days straight?
My meals will be covered. I will be working different hours, but less number of hours while I am with them on the trip. I will technically be hanging out with them but will not be responsible for the baby most of the time, more just a second set of hands. Not yet sure about room or food arrangements. I am sure all meals will be covered since they cover my food normally while at work. (I'm a live out but they provide my lunch foods) I'll sit and chat with MB today and get more details. I work for an amazing family so I am sure they will make it more than fair and I enjoy spending time with MB so it won't be weird at all. Just wondering if any of you had similar experiences and it worked out.

$75/night for being away from home, addt'l pay for any extra hours, all food/transportation covered. Make sure you'll have access to easy transportation to get around after work.

One of the conditions on which I offer guaranteed hours is that the nanny must be available to travel without additional pay, provided that she works no more than her usual hours. If she chooses not to travel, she waives pay for those days because she is the one choosing not to be available for work. Now if she travels with me and puts in extra hours, she gets extra pay. If she travels with me and stays in a hotel room with the kids while I am elsewhere, she gets an overnight fee.

We all value our time at home, OP. However, when travel is required, most of us do it without expecting or receiving extra pay beyond out of pocket expenses because it is part of our jobs.

Travel is not something that is a normal part of my job or in my contract, therefore I do expect compensation for it. I selected this position over others because I would not want to be on call for travel when I don't want to be.
