Would an occasional sitter get paid time an half or double to babysit on Memorial Day?
Thanks! |
No, but maybe an extra tip if you love her. |
+1. I babysat last Memorial Day for a 3 kids at a cookout and they paid me my normal rate (for 3 kids) plus gave me an extra $50 at the end of the day as a "thank you". |
Nice. Smart parents know how to help you say "yes" next time they need you. Good business people know how things work. |

I would definitely give a good sitter the occasional bonus.
The families who "round up" have a better chance of scheduling me on a Saturday evening than the family who asks if I have change (this has actually happened). |
Nope. Regular rate. Maybe a tip if you normally have trouble finding a sitter. |
Good sitters and nannies give priority to the better paying/tipping jobs. There's no sense in denying the obvious.
Of course "better" jobs can be the perks. |
True. Of course, Memorial Day isn't really a high priority babysitting day. I'd expect to pay a premium on, say, NYE, but not on Memorial Day or Columbus Day. |
Sure, but you'd also expect to have better luck securing a good sitter on Memorial Day - which unlike Columbus Day is actively, nationally celebrated/observed - if you tip well for holidays. |
No. |
Agree. |
+1. No bonus or enhanced pay for work on Memorial Day. |
I wouldn't pay extra. |
It's not a requirement, but it is a holiday (one that most spend with family enjoying the beginning of summer) and to acknowledge that and show your appreciation with a tip, would not soon be forgotten by your sitter and will only help your relationship. The families that go the extra mile to keep me happy are the ones that get first dibs on my time and the ones I am willing to go the extra mile for in return. |
