Hi !
I had been working with the same family for almost 4 years my charges are 3 and almost 5... 50 hours a week some of my duties are kids laundry, cook, dishwasher, driving the kids to activities, school etc., benefits 2 weeks paid vacation, 2 sick days and 2 federal holidays. Since my younger charges was born I got paid $17 per hour....should I ask for a raise?? One of my employer work in federal government and when we sign contract last year MB told me they can't give me a raise because all government employee salary were freeze.... |
If your MB already said she can't give you a raise, what is your question? |
Why only two federal holidays? That seems really odd. Are these people cheapskates? |
Op here! I asked for the federal holiday last year cuz they didn't give me a raise... Last year I didn't asked
For a raise! MB didn't have a raise last year or this year but I'm really sure they can give me a little raise or al least a bonus... Or maybe all federal holiday off since we sign the last year contract they went to Europe, got a new car, change the entire kitchen.... My husband said I should start looking for a new position but I'm really attached to my charges =\ |
Your rate is about right, but your holidays and sick days are very low. Negotiate for those instead. |
Sounds like they want you to leave. They have money for everything but you! Nothing ambiguous about that. Line up your next job. |
Op here! Forget to mention I didn't have sick days the first 2 years I asked for the sick days in the 3 year! |
What makes you think they want you to stay? |
No I don't think they WANT OP to leave instead, I think they're willing to jip OP in order to save money for their own wants/needs. OP you have every right to ask and they have every right to say no. If you're not happy I'd look for employment elsewhere. I no it's hard when you get attached to your charges but that's no reason to stay at a job. |
You should have at least 10 fed holidays and 3-5 PTO days.
Ask for a raise. Explain why you deserve one. When your MB says no, explain that in lieu of a raise, for the reasons you've already explained, you deserve more PTO and these are how many/the ones you would like. Then hold firm. |
I differ a bit here - since Feds have been getting furloughed this yr if that was their situation it may be a bad time to ask. If not then feel free to at the year mark and if they say no then ask for extra paid fed holidays. It is weird that they do not give them to you already if MB has these days off. |
What they spend on their kitchen and vacation is irrelevant. They feel that you are already adequately compensated. If you disagree, then negotiate on that basis, not on the basis of what else they budget for. The latter makes you sound like a whiny child who is complaining about her sister's birthday gifts. |
She has 2 weeks vacation, 2 sick days, and 2 holidays. That's 14 days. It's not that bad. If you want to negotiate for more, ask for it, but again, come up with an explanation other than "this is what I SHOULD get" |
OP, what happens on other federal holidays? Do you work, or are you required to take the days off without pay?
Does the family take vacations in addition to your two weeks paid vacation? If so, do you work, get off without pay, or get paid without working? |
