How to hire a housekeeper?

I would like to hire a housekeeper to tidy up, deep clean, and perhaps cook if that's among her talents. Expect this to take 6-8 hours a week. What is the typical hourly rate for this? How can I find one? (I don't live in DC and around here, housekeepers seem to be rare.)

That's not a housekeeper. A housekeeper is a full-time position. That's a cleaning lady who comes once a week. Put an ad on Craigslist.

Are you looking to set regular days? One day a week? Two? I'd probably start with CL. Maybe care.com?

I've seen some great ads on care.com. I've been considering this, too. The rates I've seen quoted are $15-$25 (DC area).
