going rate in atlanta for PT ? RSS feed

Does anyone know the going rate for an experience college-aged nanny/babysitter in Atlanta (they would need 14-16 hours/ week) for infant care. I am moving to Atlanta to start graduate school in the fall at Georgia tech. I'm hoping to find a 2 day/week nanny job. Most of the families I've found through care.com are paying $10/hour. Is this the going rate in Atlanta? This particular family lives in Symrna.
Thanks!

Longtime Atlanta nanny here. $10/hour for infant care is on the lower end of the pay scale. You will definitely attract better candidates if you offer at least $12/hour.

You may have trouble finding and retaining someone with part-time hours. I would look into entering a nanny share.

She's looking to BE a nanny, not hire one PP.

OP, I don't know the Atlanta market. $10/hr seems on the low side, but then again w/ significant restrictions on availability you might need to be more flexible on rate.

Good luck.

Typical that they want to lowball you. Say your rates are 15. and see what comes along. Not that many grad students are in the Atlanta nanny field. That sets you apart from the rest. Remember that you need only one family who wants you and can afford your higher than average rates.

Where will you be living OP? I can give you a realistic estimate. Also, do you have previous child care experience?

OP here. I will be living in midtown with my husband. He's already living in and I miss him immensely! I have 5 years experience as a part-time nanny. I've also taken some coursework in Montessori education and will be finished with postbaclorate degree in a few weeks. Thanks for all your help.

PP here. You have awesome qualifications and can very easily earn $15 in the midtown/Buckhead area.
There are lots of SAHMs in that area looking for PT hours. Stay away from Smyrna!
I would miss my husband too! Best of luck to you!!

What isn't wrong with Smyrna is the real question.
