silly question - and I know I'll get flamed for this but...to each her own.
My nanny is going to Guatemala in the deep country for 3 weeks. has anyone ever had a nanny go to a developing country and come back with something they were afraid their infants would catch? I know it sounds silly but with TB and so much stuff i do worry. Please tell me i'm being silly parents. |
Won't she get shots to prevent that? |
OP, she should (and probably is) getting vaccines for things that can be prevented.
For bacterial or parasitic infections that cannot, just let her know that you want her to feel completely comfortable calling out sick when she returns if she has any kind of fever or other symptoms of infection. That way the worst case scenario is that you pay her for a few extra sick days, but the upside is you don't have to worry about her infecting the baby. |
I'm a nanny and have been all over the under developed world (Tanzania, Kenya, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Nicaragua, Cuba, India, etc....) I've always been extremely proactive with getting the required vaccinations and keeping myself healthy while traveling. I've only gotten sick once from traveling and have never passed anything on to my charges. |
Can't blame you for thinking that way OP.
Can you ask her if she is going to be getting the rec shots? |
OP here. thanks everyone. She has her TB - just checked with her. I'm actually from Latin america myself and what comes to mind to me is Dengue fever (which I dont think you can "transmit" but a parasitic stomach infection. She's pretty considerate about colds , etc so I think she'll be the same on this trip. Just watching all those crazy movies where the peopel dont know they have something and pass it on. Ugh. |
