MB and DB are OCD but I still feel insulted. RSS feed

So I have been at my new job for two months. I knew going in they could be a bit difficult, well particular about the place is and child care Etc I don't mind child care, they are backed off ..more so then I thought. The problem is that things I'm their house have to exactly as they have left it and no shoe policy. This means I have to bring a pair of socks and slippers to the house every single time! DB gave me grief about forgetting my socks. He's kinda anal like that. So I went barefooted but that was a problem for him. He does not like feet I guess. I am use to walking around barefoot as I please. Well at this house I can't. No shoes ----outdoor shoes that is. I have to wear slippers and socks. I think it's stupid! I guess I'm asking is this a minor complain or do I have the right to be upset by this? I never wear socks. I'm always in flip flops and open shoes without socks so I'm annoyed about having to wear them for x amount of hours a work. I never did before. Even when I was little socks weren't for me or shoes. Always maned to go barefoot. Other then this job is good. I don't know it's a vent.

I'm OCD like that to. Europeans are more used to that sort of thing. They try to keep the dirt out of the house as much as possible. But I totally understand you, OP.

Buy a pair of flip flops you only wear at their house. Although its not a requirement in my work house, I have a pair of shoes I only wear in the house.

There are many jobs that have dress codes for the office. Your employers' home is your office, and their dress code dictates that you keep separate footwear that is worn only inside the house. Annoying? Possibly, but not unreasonable.

I work in a no-outside-shoe house. My own house is a no-shoe house. I keep a pair of inside shoes at work that I wear when my feet or back hurt. Other than that I am either in socks or bare feet. I prefer bare feet, and only wear socks for about 5-6 months of the year when it's cold out.

Would DB be ok with an inside pair of flip flops like PP suggested? If he has a thing against bare feet you'll have to just humor him, at least when he's around. Keep a supply of socks at work and wash them there each week when you do the kid's laundry (if that is one of your responsibilities).

We don't wear shoes in the house (but go barefoot). It really cuts down on the wear/tear and dirt. Can they give you a drawer/closet to leave a bunch of socks and slippers? If it annoyed me, I'd go buy you some socks and a few pair of slippers to wear.

My MB and DB don't have rules about shoes, but I do. I don't like wearing shoes that have been outside on an inside floor - because the kids are crawling. They don't need that junk on their crawl space and that means in their mouths!
I always wear or bring socks and wear those around the house.

I think that's a pretty normal requirement. I think I've worked for maybe one family that allowed shoes in the house. That said all the families allowed me to go barefoot though I usually kept a pair of slippers there for days I felt like wearing them. Find some slippers or house shoes you like get advanced approval on writing that they met their standards and just wear them. Their house, their rules. Ask to leave them there and that will solve the problem if schlepping them back and forth several times a week.

OP, why can't you just get a pair of cheap Chinese slippers and keep them in your bag or at their house near the front door, and slip those on as soon as you walk in? I don't consider myself to be anal at all but we have a no-shoes house.

There are many reasons people dont like shoes in their homes, in fact I have come to a point where I do ask if I am supposed to wear shoes or not. Generally I take them off. There have been studies done on germs on the soles of shoes. And yes floors do stay cleaner longer if people do take shoes off at the door.

So buy a fresh pair of flip flops, sandals, or slippers to wear in their home.

Why can't you just buy a pair of slippers and keep them there? Seems like a pretty simple solution.

OP here. I guess that is what I Will do. But I just find it obnoxious that I can't relax in their home. I have to put socks on which I hate.

Totally unnecessary comment. OP clearly stated that it was a rant, whining/complaining is kind of the point. Go away.

But ... you're at work. You're not at YOUR home. You're not supposed to relax at work; you're supposed to be "on" and working when at work. I go to an office for my work, and would love to be able to kick off my shoes and walk around my office without them. But that wouldn't be professional, so I don't.
