Nanny/Nanny Share - Help us get Started!!! RSS feed

We are expecting DC 2 and will be looking for a Nanny or Nanny Share to provide childcare in Rockville, MD three days a week (Mon, Tues and Thurs) for about 25 hours/week. DC1 will be just over 2 years old and DC 2 will be around 3 months old at the time we would like to start. We would be looking for someone who has their own car. That's about as far as we've gotten in terms of the nanny search. Can someone help us out with reasonable rates and insight into how folks are going about connecting with prospective Nanny's? Thank you!

Welcome. I'd imagine the first thing to do is to determine if you want more of a sitter (who will follow your daily instructions), or more of a professional nanny (who knows how to do her job). The sitter will be cheaper, 10-17/ hour range. A nanny pro will be more of a 20-30/ hour range.

OP, you do not need to pay 20 an hr in ROCKVILLE to get a competent person who will work out well for your family. Based on typical rates posted her, number of hrs and kids likely range for your area is probably about 15 or 16 per hr. possibly as much as 17 given the low hr number but if you are able to find another family needing the other 2 days so it is effectively a full time job between the two or you then that will be more attractive.

Nanny share questions are discussed frequently on here. Have you already run a search in this forum for that topic?

Agree that you'll need to go higher because of the low hours (I'd think $17-19/hr legally, $15-16 under the table for a good nanny) unless you can arrange with another family to make it a share that provides FT work for the nanny.

Those prices assume your children have no SN and you don't want too much by way of a "curriculum" for the 2YO - if you want someone who has the training (ECE degree) and/or experience to come up with ongoing preschool-like activities for him, I think you are talking $18-20/hr realistically. I could be wrong.

Stfu! I am what iw old consider to be a very competent experienced professional nanny and I would not charge close to 30/hour barring extreme circumstances. You're ridiculous, and constantly spouting this nonsense on every thread will scare parents off, not encourage them to pay well.

I wouldn't pay 30 an hour to a nanny who says STFU!!

Why are some average paid nannies so nasty towards nannies who earn 25-30? Beyond their sheer envy, what's their anger about?
