Neurotic parents breed neurosis in their children. My MIL's fear of heights rubbed off on my DH.

Fear of heights is VERY common, it could easily happen to someone without having it "rub off" from a relative of theirs. OCD is more likely to be passed on than a basic common fear of heights or snakes etc.
