Seeking help figuring out salary for part-time nanny in Rockville! RSS feed

I know there are a lot of these types of posts on here, but I'm hoping that with some specifics folks in the Rockville area and other DC suburbs can give me a sense of what a reasonable rate/package might be!

Here are the details: We currently have a 14 month old son and are working on #2. We would be looking for someone to watch both kids from 8am-530pm Mon, Tues, Thurs (so under 30 hours/week). In addition to childcare, we would be interested in having them do some laundry and light cleaning. Prospective nanny should have a driver's license and their own car. We would pay mileage as needed. Besides federal holidays, how much vacation time (paid) is standard/reasonable?

Can any moms sound off as to what they pay in the Rockville area and what they might consider to be appropriate for a two year old and an infant?

TIA!

What do you mean by some laundry and light cleaning? If you mean kids laundry and cleaning after the kids, this is standard and will not affect your rate. If you mean family laundry and any cleaning beyond cleaning after the kids and leaving your home as she found it, you should expect to pay more. For 2 kids in Rockville, standard duties, I would charge $15-$17/hour, depending on the rest of the package and the total number of hours and $16-$19 if you wanting additional housekeeping duties (cooking for family, family laundry, mopping/sweeping/vacuuming, etc.).

I have a nanny for roughly 20 hours / week. I have 2 kids - ages 4 and 1 and pay $18/hr regardless of her watching one or both kids. She drives my oldest to/from preschool, feeds them light meals and cleans up after their playing and meal times. Light housekeeping (emptying dishwasher, etc) and childrens laundry were supposed to be part of the deal but it rarely ever happens. I do not pay any holiday or vacation pay given the hours are reduced. Hence, I have let the light housekeeping and kids laundry issue slide. Friends think I'm way over-paying but she is very flexible and I've found hiring p/t nanny very difficult, so I am fine with the rate.
