Nannies: what tasks (other than childcare) do you do regularly, and how many hours do you work?
Me: 40 hours Unload dishwasher, wash/dry/fold kids' laundry, cook meals for family/kids, run errands, grocery shop, keep playroom and bedrooms organized and tidy and clean the kitchen behind myself. |
| 45 hours. Unload/load dishwasher, children's laundry twice a week, change children's sheets and blankets twice a week, prepare lunch and dinner for children, keep inventory of items needed such as diapers, wipes, etc. Once in awhile I am asked to pick up milk. |

I only have one charge, a 5-month old...
40 - 50 hours Do the baby's laundry once a week (on Fridays), fold her clothes, and put them away; put her toys away once we're done playing with them, and I choose to wipe off her play mat once a day... Aside from that, all I have to do is clean up after myself whenever I use the kitchen to make myself a meal/snack (I never run/unload the dishwasher, the parents do that). |
|
50 hours scheduled (usually work slightly less)
-kids' clothes, linens, and towels -go through kids' clothes in preparation for change of seasons to pull out what no longer fits and see what MB needs to order -keep playroom organized including pulling out toys/books for donation -breakfast, lunch for kids...sometimes leftovers (theirs or mine) and sometimes from scratch -keeping kitchen tidy during work hours -child related errands as needed or at request of MB -occasionally pick up a few groceries -communicate with therapists, apply what therapists want us to work on -shoveling driveway and sidewalk if it snows during the day...the kids share this responsibility and MB pitches in if she's home that day (we leave it if we know DB is coming home early) -other things that come up as needed |

21 month old and 3 year old charges
53 hours a week Sort/wash/dry/fold/put away kids clothes, towels, sheets, rugs. Finish parents laundry I'd left in washer or dryer. (11+ loads a week) Dishes Cooking for family Stock and clean kids room Stock parents cars (never used by me) All upkeep on both jogging strollers Sweep kitchen 3x a day |
|
40 to 50 hours a week
Three charges under 3 (all nap at same time! Woot!) -Children's laundry (clothes and bedding) -Towels and linens -Keep children's rooms clean, and generally pick up any toys or children activities -Vacuum house once or twice a week (all rooms but parents room) -keep children's bathroom tidy -clean and sanitize toys once every two weeks -Shopping for children, clothes and food -pack eldest bag for pre-k -take children to doctor appointments |
11 loads of laundry per week for a family of 4? Great job killing our environment. |
|
50 hours/week. 1y.o. and 2y.o. who are 14months apart.
I was told I was not expected to do anything outside of caring for the kids. But over time I have started taking out the trash. I fold the kids' clothes hanging on the line. Pick up milk if they run out. Organize the kids' playroom. I like sewing, and I've mended/hemmed some of the kids' clothes. Clean up parents' breakfast dishes and spot-clean the kitchen. I've seen lots of nannies here complain about this, but they don't take advantage. I think I would only have a problem if they started leaving their dinner dishes too. Anything extra I do, it's because I choose to. |

15 hours with child care and light housekeeping
-make breakfast and prepare lunches -drop off to school -wipe off counters and table -sweep living room and kitchen -load dishwasher -pick up in game room -several loads of laundry a week -minimal errands - cleaners, groceries, etc Sounds like a lot, but minus the laundry, everything else takes me about 45 minutes. |
|
Unload dishwasher
Bake low fat muffins for MB Prepare healthy family meals..I make everything from scratch Help with laundry (housekeeper does most of it) Feed dog and cat Walk dog if it's not below 30..they have a dog walker but I try and get a few miles in Put kids laundry away, keep clothes organized Run errands, grocery shop Take dog to the vet and groomer Stay on top of snack day, birthday parties, school admission paperwork |

Twin 8 month olds
45 hours a week I am not requested to do anything But I do: Unload and load dishwasher Premake all formula and pour all bottles for the day Wash twins clothes and bedding twice a week Sanitize toys Make baby food because we have a busy schedule mostly I just do the first two things and that's it. |
|
53 hours per week
15 months old charge - make and sanitize bottles - load/unload dishwasher - make breakfast/lunch/dinner for baby - keep kitchen clean during working hours - switch over laundry (from washer to dryer) - sanitize highchair daily - sanitize all toys weekly - keeps babies toyroom/bedroom tidy - empty diaper genie Basically everything that I do somehow relates back to the child. |
Not my choice. Its also a lot of time taken away from the kids. And the 11 loads doesn't count the parent. I have never met such wasteful people in my life. |
| 34 hours....baby's laundry, keep the area, kitchen tidy, cook baby food, mop the floors while baby's asleep. |
