When I took my job almost 2 years ago, I knew that the family wanted to pay me under the table. I accepted any way and have been doing my own taxes. When I accepted, I didn't know all of my rights as a nanny.
I'll be getting married and buying a place within the next 2 years and am feeling the burden of trying to save for my life changes and footing the bill for my employer's part of my taxes. Do you think it would be fair for me to ask my employers to do my taxes properly with a w2 when my contract comes up for renewal? |
Ask IRS. |
OP is the troll. |
I think that is a reasonable request and it absolutely within your right to ask. Though reasonable, they may not want to put the money out so be prepared for them to decline. |
This is a perfectly acceptable request, just realize that is it going to cost YOU far more money than it's going to cost your employer. You will then have to pay your share of your own taxes as well -- and that is a much higher number than the FICA portion your employers have been avoiding.
But I'm a bit advocate for legal pay arrangements, so as long as you can live with the impact to your own pay, go fot it! |
It can cost the employers jail time. |
