We would need some solution for our baby while waiting to enroll in daycare.
If we would hire someone to come to our house, and would like to do things 'legal', what are the minimum things we need to arrange? Do we really need to be an employer and provide W2, pay tax etc. Or can we just pay a salary, set up a contract, and both nanny and ourselves will indicate this on the tax forms and spendings/earnings? |

What town? |
Even more importantly, what state? Different states have different levels of complication when it comes to hiring a nanny on the books, but you do need to have a W2 for her - whether you arrange that through your accountant or decide to use a payroll service is dependent upon how much time you want to spend figuring out the money! |
it is for DC. So a W2 is needed?
|
what do you mean? |
A W-2 is needed if she makes $1700 or more- so unless its short term and pretty p/t you will need to provide one. You also will need to get an employer I'd # and setup am account to pay the ss/Medicare taxes. If you don't withhold her half from her pay you are automatically on the hook for 100% of them. You'll also need to have her fill out the I-9 form to prove valid work status. |
