Parents of twins - what do you pay your nanny? RSS feed

We are expecting twins in March and we are just trying to get an idea of what the going rate for a nanny might be. We live in Fairfax, VA.

Honestly, there's no "going rate". Find the person you want and ask her. Expect anything from min. wage to 25-30/hr depending on your standards.

$18/hr NWDC 3yo twin boys

Nanny in Fairfax here, I'd say you're looking at $15-$20 depending on experience, education, etc.

I work with 8-month old twins and charge $18/hour.

Honey, You don't know any high earning nannies? You poor thing.

It really depends on the nanny and experience, etc. I worked with twins in a previous position. I started at $20. By the time they started K, I was making $25/ph.

Also $18/hr (gross) in NW DC. 47.5 hours/week total.

Are these other numbers gross, as well? I am also going to be hiring a nanny for twins soon and am trying to figure out how to negotiate salary -- whether it makes more sense to talk about gross pay, or to talk about the actual net amount the nanny will be taking home.

19:57 here and just I meant $18/ hour gross. Always negotiate in terms of gross. Its her job to figure out if the net amount is what she is looking for.

You ALWAYS talk gross, in the grown-up world.

lmao yes, I do. However, these are VERY high profile positions. OP is looking for a nanny for TWINS, not four kids. She does not and should not be paying $25+ an hour for that. Sorry. I'm with the parents on this board when they say that the nannies on here over inflate salaries like crazy.
Anonymous
OP, please do not listen to the nannies on here saying you should be paying $20+ an hour. That is crazy.

You could easily find someone for $15/hr-$18/hr...and I'm a nanny! The nannies on here like to go overboard with the hourly rates and it's just ridiculous. I was a nanny in Leesburg for twin 8 weeks old a year ago and I started at $17/hr and they raised me to $18/hr after a year.

Some people are just cheap. Too bad.
