Awkward Coming Out Story (Nanny RELATED!) RSS feed

Anonymous
I posted on here a few months ago about how I feared coming out to my employers, I ended up deciding it was really none of their business and attempted to keep my personal life my personal business.

All is well, job going great, kids are great (got tons of toys!) so I go out yesterday night to see a film with my lady friend, we saw Les Miserables (which is fantastic) and of course, lady friend and I are affectionate, not overly but holding hands, sharing a drink ect... I got to pee and I get a pull at my shirt, I was totally sitting a few rows above my boss and her friend. I am probably ghost white, I say hey and head to the bathroom and try not to vomit. I go back to my seat, and literally try to sit as far away from my longtime lady friend as possible, she's like wtf? I sit and hope MB will leave and forget I am here, she leaves the theater and I try to get lady friend to leave out the theatre exit, but she has to pee. What do you know, MB and her friend are smiley and waiting for me to come out of the theater. I awkwardly keep ranting about how awesome the movie was, talk about Anne Hathaway to much and mention that my girlfriend is my "friend" about 20 times. We finally part ways, I leave with an angry girlfriend. She bitched about how I'm not suppose to be in a closet, and I'm not except for this, I tried to explain that if I lost my job due to gayness we couldn't see movies anymore, then we couldn't have nice things! (which isn't true, she works as well).

Anyways, I don't sleep last night, show up to work and MB smiles, acts normal and leaves for work, 6pm rolls around and DB returns and asks me to stay late because he has to do something or another, I agree but cringe, I so don't want to see MB at this moment. MB comes home after the kiddos are in bed around 8:30 as I'm getting ready to leave, she then starts to talk about the movie yesterday. Dammit! Damn! Damn! I'm so close to a anxiety attack, I'm talking really fast about how great the movie is and try to steer the conversation towards the movie, maybe she didn't see us all coupley? I want to leave, she keeps talking, I know where this is headed.

-"Your friend seems really nice"
-"Yeah, she is, so Hugh Jackman, what an actor..."
-"How long have you guys been friends"
-"What, Hugh...oh, you know...awhile"
-"that's good. (gives knowing smile)
-"I'm glad that you got to see the movie, I know you wanted too. We try to give you weekends off incase you want to date, or something"
-"thanks, yes...Hughjackmanannahathawaybaldsosadidreamadreamfjakfjdklasf
-"I don't remember you mentioning having a boyfriend, it's nice that you can go out with your friend"
-"yes, it's nice."
-"One day [DB] and I should double date with you, whenever you date, if you are. Whenever"
-"yes, uh yes. That would be uh..."
-"I actually have a friend who has a nephew your age, maybe we could try that"
-"Uh, thank you but, no I'm not interested right now"
-"That's ok, it's ok for you to not be interested. right. now....or, uh...ever"
-"thanks"

(awkward silence)

-"Was that your girlfriend I met last night"
-".....yes"
-"Oh my god! I knew it, you two are so cute, I told [DB] but he didn't believe me, he said she was probably your cousin. Why didn't you tell me? It's ok, I understand. You know, I have friends on Facebook who are lesbians. They are so sweet, and have nice hair"

[then proceeds the most awkward 20 minutes of my life where I just sit there and try to breath while she talks about her short term lesbian fling in college]

BUT! They don't care, very happy that it's off my shoulder, even though now I know a little too much about MB sexual history.

Um, how old are you? This seems like some kind of fan fiction or something.

Glad it worked out, OP. It will be a better day when gay folk don't even have to think about this stuff.

Good for you, OP! .. Btw, MB seems very understanding. I could tell reading the conversation that she knew it was awkward for you and started up the conversation in an attempt to tell you she knows, understands, and doesn't care that you're seeing another female.

However, ''College flings'' are completely different then lesbians, LOL. MANY strait girls have had ''flings'' with other girls but a lesbian will always be attracted to girls.

This is a really cute story! Sorry you had to go through the awkward run-in and follow up conversation but so happy for you that you dont' feel like to you to live some type of double life and that your bosses aren't homophobes.

I regret posting it now, seems to be a bit odd to many.

I don't think it's odd. I think it's great. I enjoyed the story and am happy for you. If others feel differently, of well for them!
