What are your thoughts on a live-in nanny (1 year) being included in the family photo with the parents and children? Nanny's name signed with the greeting card sent out to the employing family's friends and family? |
i would think it very unusual and a little odd. |
Since this is posted in the AP forum, I'll respond as a HM and say that we never do this. APs come and go after one year, and while we treat them and enjoy them as a member of our family FOR THAT YEAR, the fact is, they are not a permanent member of the family. And our friends and family who receive cards from us once a year do not need to see a pic of the latest long-dark-haired Brazilian or long-blond-haired German (and yes, all of our APs have fit one or the other description - ridiculous to think about).
That said, if we had had the same live-in nanny for 5-7 years, I might feel differently. Not sure. |
I would take it for exactly as you mean it: "I can afford a nanny." Really affected. |
I think it's unnecessary. |
I think if it's a multi-photo card and there's an au pair in one of the photos, that wouldn't be a big deal. But in the main family photo it seems strange without explanation. If you could caption it "and ___, who is living with us this year from ___!" or something that explains it and makes it seem natural, that would be nice. |
I'm a live in nanny and I have been included on both this year's and last year's Christmas cards. They were multi-photo cards so on each one there was a photo of my charge and I and my name was also on it. I don't have a traditional nanny/employer relationship with them..they really are like my family and I know all of their extended family very well. Not weird at all. Everyone loves the cards. |
