Sick Days Advice RSS feed

I would just like to preface this in saying I know I am extremely lucky to work for an amazing family.
I have been working part-time (4 days/week) for this family for a little over three years. In that time I've taken maybe 3 sick days, where I had to call out morning of. I have taken a few personal days also, with notice, and for these days have found a substitute nanny.
We don't have a written contract, and this has been fine for both parties (mainly because other than the fact that I work regular hours/4 days per week, I really consider myself more of a sitter, than a nanny). I am paid at the beginning of the week for all four days. Last week, I had to take a day off due to a stomach bug. I was already paid for the day I missed, of course. I've tried in the past to pay MB back for the sick day, but everytime she's turned it down. I feel bad, I don't want to take her money for not working, when she has to take a day off from her job. I just don't feel right about it, but I don't know what else I should do.

I am paid for most holidays, and when their family takes vacations, I'm usually paid for part or all of the week.
We have a very casual relationship, I consider them friends, and since I've been with them for so long, they're like family to me.

I just don't know what to do about the sick days...just let it go? Is that ok? I don't want them to feel taken advantage of, but I offer everytime, cash in hand to give it back to her, but she shoes it away.

Keep offering. She'll keep refusing. Don't worry about it.

PP here. I meant to say that you should keep offering every time you miss a day. Not to keep on offering for this past one. If she's already declined your offer just move on and don't worry about it.

Maybe offer to make up a few of those hours for a weekend date night.
