OP here I appreciate all feed back. We did give her some pastries and donuts from her favorite place like I mentioned before, bought her lunch on her last day and on top of her pay, she had one week vacation time left so we paid her that. She was grateful as she always is so I don't think we did too bad. Plus she's still a part of our family and welcomed over any time.

Good lord, how awful. Who wants doughnuts. I hope you never need to call her for a babysitting gig. She'll tell you to eat doughnuts. What an insult.

After 3 years though a parting monetary gift would be nice and appreciated.

You are not required to give her severance pay however a financial check or ca$h in an amount you can afford to give would be a testament to how much she was appreciated the last three years.

OP here! She’s not asking for anything I do know from questions I asked her references before hiring her she was given appreciation bonus at the end of their contract. Anyway, decided to gift her donuts and a card telling her how we appreciate her.

Doughnuts are a sign that you are cheap. There is no appreciation in doughnuts. I would have thrown them in the trash in front of you.

If you don’t think you could have done better why exactly are you posting on here? Also, paying her out left over vacation time is not anything extra or a favor you are doing. It is standard. She was appreciative because that’s the person she is and she has to be professional (good for her) but make no mistake that she hasn’t noticed how much you actually appreciate her. May she find a family that will show appreciation for her.

One week pay per yr of service is what you should have done. You gave her 0

You already gave her the best severance gift.. being an excellent reference and helping your nanny land a new job immediately so she continues getting her paycheck. That is very much appreciated and so is your thoughtful gift of the food your nanny loves. Ignore the nasty trolls here.

Ok mom the only troll here is you trying to sock puppet that you’re right. Doughnuts is cheap and a reference was earned. I hope she never sees you again in life what an insult!

Donuts and pastries…..that’s silly; rest assure she won’t pick up your call when you need her on a weekend /night out.

These responses are so bizarre to me. No other job gives gifts when employment ends. It's nice to, but it's not a requirement.
