$20-25hr in DC is not the average nanny salary. If you can’t afford it that’s fine. Look for a in home day care. I am a nanny and have bills too. I can’t live off $20hr. I have a degree, over ten years experience and so much more. I am sure you can also find a college student with not much experience to do it for $20hr so you do have options |
Sorry that the state of our economy is pressuring us all. It's the high cost of living that's pressuring us all, not the income rate. As income rates increase, so will directly the cost of living increase, that is what is called an inflation. Look at the 3rd world countries. It's best to see cost of living and incomes all stay stabilized.
Parents should not eliminate a job opportunity because it's lower than what you would have hoped for. This is the average rate of a nanny, and parents offering in this range are offering what the fee for this field is. |
Your feelings and your needs don't determine nanny market rates. They only determine what is worthwhile to you. There's a wide range of nanny rates because of experience and capabilities - A family not offering a rate YOU determine as standard gives you no right to tell parents to 'look for in home daycare.' |
I guess you must be one of the parents that wants to pay Pennie’s to a nanny with over twenty years of experience to watch your human. |
this is not about feelings at all; it's about inflation. It seems that you're not able to afford a nanny at today's rate. Not all parents are, btw. As a nanny(not the PP above) I have ALL the rights to tell parents to "look for in home daycare' OR community daycare. The days of cheap labor are way over; you can't afford it? simply be a SAHM! |
You don't know what I can afford. What people can afford to pay someone or something doesn't determine the price of that service or good. Your education failed you since you can't grasp supply and demand. Sounds like you can't afford your lifestyle and you should get a higher paying job. |
That is incredibly entitled of you. You should go to college to increase your salary, not coming on here shaming parents.
A good nanny would never be on a board bashing parents. You clearly don't have the qualifications to make more yourself, and your only last resort is to come here and ruin the communication stream of employers and employees. This board should not allow this on the employment section. Either that, or you're a nanny agency, trying to ruin the chances of parents hiring directly. I know multiple nannies in DC making $18-$22, not even the $25 mentioned here. This is not a matter of affordability. It's like telling a company that if you have to pay everyone the same salary of an engineer, and if you can't then you should close your company. |
Poor soul that got her feelings hurt just b/c can't afford to pay a caregiver. Perhaps, you could try counseling and get your feelings and emotions in check. You're welcome! |
Looks like this fool knows lots of "nannies" that make hardly any $$ Just try to get a better job yourself so you could afford to pay a Nanny. Lots of Nannies here have been MCPS teachers and TA and have degrees and their rates are way higher. Momma: you gotta pay to play or be SAHM, Yours, Former teacher |
Another DCUM venting over because can't have the lifestyle she wish to have...get a life or watch over your tiny humans at home! |
I find hard to believe that some mothers here have so much time in their hands but yet unable to watch their kids...are you sure you need a nanny? A lot moms here sound like Daycare moms, they certainly fit the profile.
|
What, pray tell, is a “daycare mom”? Is this some dig at lower income moms? Who talks like that? |
no, it is the moms who always argue that daycares are so great and nannies are all horrible |
Daycare isn’t cheap either. There’s a mom on a different thread in Bethesda paying 5k a month for daycare for 2 kids.
Childcare costs are crazy and telling someone to be a sahm isn’t the answer. |
So much for OP’s attempt to limit the negativity… |
