I'm wondering what nannies typcally do when they need a bathroom break and there is a young child that needs constant supervision. I just pee quickly with the door open and usually my child likes to stay in the bathroom since we don't normally let him be in there. Or I stick him in the bathtub which he likes a lot. I don't know if the nanny would want to do that though... I assume she wants privacy?

Should I ask her what her plan is and whether she needs to us to set up a pack and play or some other safe place? I'd rather she not stick him in his crib because I want crib to be a clear signal for nap or bedtime.

Or should I just say nothing? Also don't want to micromanage. But child is a climber. He will carry small things over and stack them so he can climb to where he wants to be...

You expect a nanny to take your child with her when she uses toilet! What if she is changing pad/tampax! I put my children in playpen

Why not? Do you think there’s something shameful about menstruation? My kids go into the bathroom with me and with nanny all the time. I don’t pen them for any reason.

No Pp.. but I have seen my charges happy there. Very safe in the highchair. They are very good behaved and put some big toys on the little table, a shaker, or a book or a toy with music. I don't want them watching me going No.2 and smelling ... you know.

I only “go #2” at home in the morning. Get healthier nanny! I wouldn’t leave them alone.

Sorry, not bringing my charge into the bathroom with me unless I need to. I put them somewhere safe for a few minutes.

Had to laugh at some of these comments. Have been a nanny for 15+ years and never had an issue putting a child in high chair (buckled) or crib while going to the restroom for a few minutes.

My nanny drops the baby off with me or puts her in the exersaucer

Be proactive and set up a pack and play near bathroom

Give her a pack and play but tell her she can put them in there or take them with her to the restroom, if you’re ok with that. I’d still give her an option and let her know your comfort level. I’ve worked for parents that didn’t want the kid in restroom with me but didn’t provide an alternative and it didn’t turn out well.

New Nanny here. I noticed the bathroom doesn't have a trashcan and I asked the mom and she said it's not sanitary to have one. Where does she expect me to dispose pads and etc? I am truly dreading when I get my period. Just wondering if this is normal in most household.
