AITA - Use of third car for road trips RSS feed

We have in our handbook that they need to rent their own car if they want to do any "road trips". We also have an older care and I frankly don't want all the wear and tear.

Definitely NTA!! It is your car, is she going to pay for it if it breaks down on the road trip? Most families do not allow their au pairs to take cars on road trips and impose some sort of restrictions. Don’t let her pressure you!

what state are you in? In the DMV this would be mean. Plus you could in theory let her drive 3 hours away and still be in either VA or MD. But you could cross the legion bridge and be in another state in 20 mins. OP we say the car is got local use only. We will consider beach trips or local weekend trips on a case by case basis

DP. Well, I guess I am mean but I do pay for my car. Once the au pair takes over payments and insurance premiums, they are welcome to drive wherever they want. Signed, the Grinch

NP but this is weird. You really wouldn’t let your au pair drive into DC or MD if you live in VA? That seems shortsighted versus a mileage range?

Yea we were in same situation and we told her to rent a car if it was more than 1-2 hours away. I don’t want to have to go rescue her from the middle of the woods

Depending on the quality of the car, AP's ability to drive the freeways and/or park/drive in DC? Seems reasonable to me.
