This. I feel you OP. We also gave notice and our nanny also has essentially stopped working. And shows up 15-30 min late even after I talked to her about her being late. It is absolutely maddening. |
|
If you have a way to manage without her I would fire her immediately. |
I am a Nanny & I personally think arriving 3-5 minutes late is typically not a big deal.
Anything after five minutes is concerning. If a parent needs to walk out the door by a specific time, then it is better if they schedule the Nanny’s arrival by about fifteen minutes prior. Your Nanny sounds like she is not on her A-game at all. I would issue her her walking papers stat. |

Arriving 3 minutes late everyday is not a big deal but annoying as hell. Why? If you’re consistently 3 minutes late then you can consistently be three minutes early. |
Could easily be 2, and that's what OP just said. "Drawing" at any age before 4 is just scribbling, and my charges start as soon as they can hold a crayon in a ham fist. Scooter starts around 1-2, depending on balance, but earlier when they've seen big kids doing it. TV doesn't happen with me until a child is 4+, but lots of parents allow it for infants and toddlers. |
Exactly this. My job is to prepare my charges for my departure, not take a mental vacation. |
There are enough incidences here where you know the answer.
She doesn’t sound like a very good or responsible nanny. If it was one of these I wouldn’t be concerned but the accumulation is concerning. Particularly the hiding the crying from you. - nanny |
Have you spoken to her about these issues? I would dock her pay every 5 min she is late. Use a nanny log and make her write down every activity they do during the day. Tell her max 30 min or 1 hour screen time (tv per day). Then explain because of the drawing on the sofa you are concerned she is on her phone rather than supervising the child.
I think it sounds like you will need to find another nanny since she doesn't naturally know these things. I highly recommend spending more money and use a high end nanny agency to help hire next nanny. In interviews tell the caregivers what you didn't like about the last nanny so they know upfront that you need someone who is prompt and reliable, that you want to limit screen time for your child and nanny. Use nanny app or nanny log from beginning for nanny to let you know they are engaging your child during the work day. |
On time means O'CLOCK. That means you plan to get there 5-10 minutes early so you can catch your breath, spit out your gum, tie your shoelace, whatever. Especially for a nanny, it's important NOT TO BE 3-5 minutes late (or more), since you're going to be settling in, washing your hands, etc. for the first few minutes anyway.

Really, a two year old should know better? I hope you’re not a nanny. |
Good for them! What do you guys expect? Those nannies have balls. |
Neglectful. Fire her, no pay. Go on care.com and get a pint her person. No phone use. |
