Oh and first entitled princess au pair wanted to leave on a Friday mid-day for her 9 days off which we agreed to to be nice but then she basically got really pissed when she had to work a couple of extra hours when my car broke down one evening a few weeks later and I had to wait to be towed. The audacity. But most of our APs wouldn't have behaved that way!

Our schedule varies so we make her weekly schedule on Sundays each week, Monday-Sunday. So, when we give a week off its Monday-Sunday or some 7 day stretch of her choosing.

Check your contract to see if it specifies 10 or 14 vacation days.

Ours says 10. Other agencies specify 14 because of abuse by host families (au pair takes 5 week days off Monday-Friday, then host families stuff 20 hours of work on the weekend = au pair works 20 of 45 hours in a week but still spent 5 days of vacation time).

So if yours is a 14 day agency, then you can count the .5 weekend day that you would normally schedule as a vacation day.
