Is she central European? If so I buy that baking powder in the packet but my family spends lots of time at international food stores exposing ourselves to new things. I would take this as an opportunity to expand my knowledge of products from abroad. The prices usually aren't that much higher if at all.
If she's super rigid, that would irritate me but I would try to deal with it if it's only about foods. I have American friends who only want to eat at certain restaurants and have specific meals and I've found it to be either a lack of exposure on their part or diagnosed OCD. Annoying but whatever. In in the APs case it might simply be a manifestation of homesickness or simply not liking new flavors. |
OP here. Thanks that's helpful. I should note that we make all kinds of food (not just "American" food--whatever that means, anyway). I'll have a discussion on basic staples versus what is needed to make her comfortable. |
I think a willingness to work with her will go a long way. Food is psychological unless there are allergies and your kindness and understanding should help. |
