Do you allow your nanny help youself with some food in your house?

Some people/families are just really friendly and welcoming people. They are usually very appreciative of someone coming in and taking care of their kids. They truly understand the job a nanny is doing and want to make sure their nanny is comfortable and valued.

Every family/person is of course different. For me, it would raise an eyebrow and I wouldn’t expect much from the family in general (but this has just been my experience). The last time I met a family like this I left after about 3 months. It just wasn’t a fit.

I am a Nanny and the majority of my employers would let me know that I was welcome to eat whatever I wanted.

I always took this as a very kind + thoughtful gesture on their part.
And yes, on days that I forgot my lunch it is always nice to know that I will not starve for the day.

There have been a few families who have never offered & unless I had other issues w/them it usually didn’t bother me too much.

It’s just nice to know that I can grab a snack on occasion.

Does the nanny get a 30 minute lunch or a 60 minute lunch? If she does not have enough time to go get lunch outside the house then the employer needs to provide it.

In my law firm days (I am now a teacher) the employer always provided meals whenever we worked though lunch or dinner with little/no break. Nanny family needs to do the same.

My nannies have always chosen to bring their own lunches but I would never begrudge anyone in my home food or drink. That includes repair people.

I bring my lunch but they stock my fav LA Croix flavors and have a shelf of granola bars, nuts, dried fruit, etc that I snack from if needed. But let's me honest most of what I eat is the kids scraps instead of throwing them out

Are nurses mandated to work 8+ hours with no break? If nanny is mandated to do so then employer provides food for nanny.

Nanny, get out if they don't do that. Cheap/thoughtless beyond belief.

Precisely. Food is provided when there is no time to leave AND there is no way to get it on premises. Teachers have access to a cafeteria, as do nurses. Nannies do not.

Who watches the kids while the nanny goes on her lunch break at 12:30 each day?

Provide the lunch, employers. Don't just say she is welcome to anything in the house. Have her leave you a small grocery list each week. Or give her gift cards for grubhub, etc. If nanny is working more than 8 hours per day -- with no break!! -- then prepare to give her 2 meals a day.

I welcome my nanny to eat whatever she wants with the exception of my favourite yogurt because I am an animal with the yogurt and it’s my ONE VICE.

I buy extra cheese/meat/bread and veggies and dips, fruit, granola bars etc for our household as we typically feed the nanny lunch.

She makes herself cheese toast often.
