MB here. If I screw up, I pay for it. I wouldn't have told you when we're taking vacation until it was final and that was her screwup. She wasn't counting on you to act so quickly.

Agreed. I'm an MB and that's what I would do too.

You’re employer is in the wrong.

Mine tried to pull this on me and it literally took me giving my notice before they decided to do the right thing.

I have told our nanny that we would be gone or wouldn't need her for something only to have that change. In that situation I asked her if she'd be willing to work during that time since I had previously told her she wouldn't have to work (and would obviously be paid either way). She was available for some but not for all of it because she had made plans. I would never have asked her to cancel her plans. So either there's more to the story (i.e. your boss didn't actually say firmly that they had plans then) or she's unreasonable and you should be careful because this does not bode well for you.
