We normally give our nanny of ~3 years two weeks' pay, rounded up, at Christmas time (plus a big box of fancy chocolates and a card). Would you be upset at not getting a more personal gift? |
I’m with a unicorn family now, too. It’s truly amazing. I was hired in January for their newborn so this is our first Christmas together. They hung up new Christmas stockings with Dad, Mom and the baby’s name on three plus a stocking with “Nanny” (what I insist being called by my charges) embroidered on it. All four are hanging together over the fireplace. It was the Dad’s idea. I was so touched! I’m always included and so appreciated by them, getting little gifts all year long and always something lovely when they go on a trip (not to mention the paid time off since they actually enjoy traveling with their child alone). I’m so lucky! And yes, I got my charge a bunch of gifts and a small gift for the parents (first time I’ve ever done it). |
Poster 22:26 here, I know that feeling! You just can't believe that you get that lucky. That there are still people that nice, loving and appreciative in this world. Awww you just made me remember! They hung up an ornament on the Christmas tree with my name too! Wait a minute! Maybe we are talking about the same family. Lol Nah! Kids are in school now. |
PP here, I wouldn't be upset. I think we should be thankful and appreciative for any nice gesture that somebody has with us. I think two weeks bonus is very generous from you. I would feel very appreciated. Since it's not something mandatory. It's totally voluntary. If she likes chocolate, it’s the perfect gift! in my case, I don’t chocolate at all. I also love when people put thoughts in what they give. Maybe because that’s the way I am. If you give me a gift card I will definitely appreciate it. You didn't have to do it. And you took the time, and spent money to get give me a card. However, if you give me something that you think I'll like, I'll be even happier For example: I am hobbyist photographer. And let's say that you know that, instead of getting me getting a gift card, you get me, I don't know, a strap for my camera. It will touch my heart. Even though it may cost you way less than a gift card. That’s where few families make a difference. But I also understand that you can't do this with all nannies. It depends on who you have. Some nannies don’t like “small things” they only want money, money and money. One Christmas I got a framed picture of the kids and I. It made me tear up. It's on my nightstand. And I'll keep it until the day I die
I LOVEEEE handmade stuff from my charges. Again, that's just ME. |
