Actually, she is being paid to sit and wait as she is paid hourly. If she goes somewhere, she should let OP know and not charge her for the time.

I'd reduce the hours or increase the duties AND if it is your car put a tracker on it.


Clearly, she isn’t being paid to “sit and wait.”


She is paid to be available.

She wasn’t an hour away, or she would have been late to pick up. There was an hour before pick up. She could have been 15-30 minutes out and in the middle of something. If she didn’t think she had enough time to finish, get back, do whatever task OP wanted done and then get to pick up?

Btdt. I can do whatever I want while kids are in school. I stay within 30 minutes of their school, NOT the house. If I need to respond to an emergency at school, I’m there within 30 minutes. Otherwise?

So all Au pairs are supposed to be all the same?? I guess nannies are the same as well?
