I am a nanny and this is unacceptable. The only reason I offered the heavy menstrual cycle defense is that it’s 5 to 7 days a month, but you are right, OP, that’s too much.
First, I never leave a baby unattended. Second, when I need to go to the bathroom, I take the baby with me in a bouncy seat. So yes, you should replace this nanny immediately. Sorry it didn’t work out for you. |
Your last sentence shows some ignorance. Most people in their late 40s still have periods. (OB/GYN here ![]() |
If that's the case thank God for cameras without them they will be on the phone all day! |
If you have cameras, it’s probsbly the phone.
My nanny family has cameras everywhere. So we spend all day outside. I know where to hide in the house around corners. I don’t need you watching me eat my lunch. |
So you never eat in public or at a restaurant? You need to work on your table manners if eating in front of your employers is so embarrassing. Nanny here and I would start searching for a new nanny. |
Maybe she's smoking an electronic cigarettes |
My concern is her leaving the baby unattended for that long and baby is crying. Its not the bathroom issue. She could bring baby with her. |
I have IBS. On my bad days, when I have really bad flares, it’s more like 30 minutes for each trip. But infants and toddlers come with me, and girls of all ages can come/go. Never called out due to it, never had an employer complaint either. They know their kids are safe and cared for, but I think the difference is that I disclose the condition and the way I handle it when they get my references, and I know it’s something my references talk to everyone about.
5 minutes sounds more like incompletely emptying the bladder, and needing to go back over and over. |
May have UTI issues. When have had uti’s ive has to immediately go when feeling the urge. I wore bladder pads/ depends... took a few minutes to both clean up with wipes and to change the pads/wrap them in a discrete way that would not smell. I’d ask that she put baby in a crib or playpen while in the bathroom though. |
She’s an older woman (not some young girl who needs to check Instagram incessantly) who went twice during an interview; she’s not checking her phone. I suspect IBS. Also, OP, women in their 40’s menstruate - I’m guessing you’re a man, hopefully not a completely clueless woman. I think you need to be direct with her. Nanny Larla, I’ve noticed that you use the restroom often and I am curious as to how you plan to tend to the children during that time. Better yet, tell her how you would like her to tend to the children during that time. If you do not have a solution for her, then I guess you have to let her go and hope that you are never in a situation that you are fired for a minor medical issue. |
Do you also sit in the nursery when the baby naps? |
I watch the monitor when the baby is napping. And use the bathroom. |
You literally watch the baby sleep? You need some help for your anxiety. |
No anxiety. I just do my job. I have the monitor on all the time the baby is sleeping while I eat lunch, make his food, do his laundry, etc. I’m simply a good nanny. |
I get your concern! Nanny here. I don’t think anybody understands the problem I think you should talk to her about how to deal with the baby when she goes to the bathroom, Ask her nicely what to do, like you want her to bring the baby to the bathroom or near the bathroom, or put her here or there.... I do whatever my bosses want me to do, this job now wanted me to lock him in the playroom where the bathroom is (he’s 2) so he can’t run around the house I was thinking e cigarettes right away, or phone, but phone seems a bit odd once an hour for 5 min?!?! I check my phone during play time because my bosses text me a lot |
