I do a lot with my phone during the day while the kids are occupied from placing Instacart orders, restocking through amazon prime now, ordering tickets to places like the children’s museum and checking out new apps that will also go to my iPad for later use. Not to mention most of my texting during the day are from their parents telling me about traffic or stuff that they forgot to mention earlier. My employers scoff at nosey neighbors and parents from the school anyways and trust me thank goodness.

Today our phones are like desktops. Things I would normally do from the computer while they free play at home I’m able to take are of while they run around the park or get a swim lesson. Ignore the bored people op.

Share there are productive uses for the phone while working.
But, you all must have all kids of eyes around your head to be able to keep an eye of the kids you are providing care for when the two eyes at the front are buried in your phone.

Look, just bc multitasking is hard for you doesn’t mean it’s hard for others. Just bc raising your kids is hard for you doesn’t mean other ppl struggle.

You are making assumptions.

So are you if you believe a nanny cannot multitask.

I sincerely doubt anyone was giving you dirty looks for the one time they ever saw you on the phone. And since this was an emergency, I am assuming they never ever saw you on your phone before.

I do see the same parents/nannies at this private playroom on a consistent basis, so they have probably seen my on my phone before since it’s the safest place to take my charges to play independently when I have something (their appts, grocery lists, organizing play dates, getting them to their grandparents) child-related to do. It’s important to note that I’m never STARING at my phone to the point I don’t know where they are/what they’re doing at all times and any time it not doing something, I’m actively on the floor playing with them. But she has definitely seen me on my phone before, as she has seen all the other “usuals” on their phones, and I have seen her on her phone.

So many excuses! Stay off your damn phones!

How is it possible that I can schedule appointments, play dates, playgroup, grocery lists, doctors appointments, etc. without using my phone when my charges are awake?

You don’t get a break. You should talk to your employers about that.

Then what would you do? Would you go to Mississippi to slaughter and pack chicken? They are hiring...

Probably because your charge still naps and mine doesn’t.

Then don’t do all your “phone work” when you’re out. Do it when your charge is home and engaged in something. Nannies on their phones in public give us all a bad name. Read the parenting forums and you’ll see countless posts about how daycare is better than a nanny because daycare teachers aren’t on their phones and nannies always are.

I do typically try, however MB just had a baby so when I’m home and 3.5 is engaged, there’s a 3 week old in my arms. Which is why I take her out to get it done. It’s complicated right now, thanks for understanding.

Then what would YOU do? Actually be a present parent before dinner and bedtime!? Many nannies are degreed or certified in ECE and would likely work in a school not a factory. Disgusting comment. And I bet you eat plenty of food that has been handled by hard working men and women in factories and grocery stores.
