You have to understand how much more you would earn with a college degree and nanny experience. Keep your own apartment, OP. Start looking for a new nanny job.

I am a teacher. No one is going to give you extra points in an interview for being a nanny.

You have a college degree so go out and find a job where there is potential for growth and a good salary and also a job where you will be respected as well as meeting new people and making friends and contacts. No matter what anyone tells you, being a nanny is nothing more than being the help!

+1. I am a former teacher who is now a nanny. Nanny-to-teacher gives you pretty much nothing. Maybe self-knowledge and a couple tricks but it will not impress a school board. However teacher-to-Nanny is powerful and earns you close to double what you’d be making if you hadn’t teaching experience.

I truly love being a nanny, OP. For me it is the best. But I would never accept a live in position where I was also the maid!!! I echo all the above - do not take this job.

Thanks everyone. OP here again. I spoke with them at lunch today and said I'd prefer to do a live out arrangement. They agreed to do that and pay hourly, but said it might not always come to 8 hours a day once the kids are back in school. That's fine, I guess, since I may find a new job by then anyway.

I'm a teacher who was a nanny. I needed to pay rent while working toward my bachelor's degree, and then I worked as a teacher while I worked toward my master's. I would never consider going back to nannying. Working in someone else's home is awkward. It was absolutely helpful to have experience with kids-managing behaviors, working with children with special needs, homework help, etc. when I entered the classroom. I understand that some people can't handle the stress of the classroom, but a nanny job offers no stability, very rarely offers any benefits, no pension, no coworkers to collaborate with...I can't imagine going back to sitting in someone's house, watching the clock and wondering when they'd finally get home.
