Agree I have never met a nanny who does not work for cash. They all say the same thing as the PP -- they get free medical, SNAP, housing assistance, everything if they show very little income. They would not be able to afford all these necessary items even making 20/hour full time. Also, they need to send much of it to family in their home country. Remittances are the main source of income in Central America.

I am a counselor at a majority-Latino high and the kids tell me everything about their parents. I myself could not find a nanny to work on the books so I ended up paying cash. It killed me as i am really against that but I was desperate for child care.

Did you use an agency. Every agency I used only has nannies paid legally, they even give information on contracts, payroll companies and more

Agencies are for rich people.

Most nannies accepting cash are at the low end of the range. Those of us paying taxes are typically on the higher end of the range.

+1. We also give full medical benefits, sick and vacation leave, holiday bonus, and contribute towards a retirement account. We never have a problem hiring a nanny on the books.

Well the best paying jobs are from agencies. Nannies who want better positions and benefits go with agencies.

But just because you, as a parent aren't using an agency, that doesn't mean you don't follow the laws. Pay legally

Agree agencies are just too expensive. It is just so easy to pay cash.

We have had a great nanny for 6 years and we pay her 20/hr for 3 kids (6,4,2), no housekeeping. I let her keep her Spanish-language soap operas on TV in the background. (Kids listen to her in Spanish and answer her in English. Added benefit!) In fact, I pay her daily. Maybe that is why she has stuck around so long. She is very happy in her job, and we in her.

Your brother is enabling his nanny to cheat the system and defraud taxpayers. How lovely of him.

We have the same scenario. Nanny will only accept cash. Her public benefits will disappear if she makes too much money on the books. We pay $18 for 1 child plus baby's laundry and baby's nursery cleaning. Nanny has been with us for one year and seems content; never late.

I speak Spanish as my second language so we did not have a language requirement when looking for a nanny. We have kept her during Covid and she is grateful. Many of her nanny friends lost their jobs. Our nanny is late 40s.

Not in the DC area. This area is all illegal Latinos and most people pay under the table.

Unless they’re at all interested in government, military and/or a security clearance. Which is plenty of families, PP. They don’t hire anyone here illegally, nor do they pay under the table.
