We’ve had chubby au pairs and thin au pairs and there was no correlation to physical activity. But every family is different. If you have a child that likes to run out into the street, Make sure you host an au pair who can keep up and move quickly.

We had a bat shit crazy thin AuPair. She was clinically depressed and never left her room.

for the anti chubby Host families, what is your BMI? I assume it is all in the 100% healthy range?

OP here. Thanks for the thoughtful feedback from most of you. As I mentioned, I am overweight myself but do Orange Theory 3x per week and regularly jog 4-5 miles, do yoga, and generally get about 15,000 steps per day. I also don't eat constant junk food and basically watch about 2 hours of TV per week so I certainly don't think overweight people are lazy gluttons in general! We also aren't "disgusting". I think I will just ask more questions about her favorite foods and activities.

I would stay away from favorites (as those could be once per year at holidays) and instead ask what she eats during a week that she only eats at home.

Yes. There are, in fact, people with healthy BMIs in this world and DC is consistently ranked as one of the fittest cities in the US so presumably most of the families who are concerned about healthy eating habits are themselves healthy.

We are a very fit family - rock climbing/ninja warrior training and only take APs with similar interests and skills/athleticism.
BMI around 20, depends on competitions and training. And bikini season!
