Would you hire an obese nanny? RSS feed

Yes, they can play in your community.

I would do a trial run.

I find it odd that during the interview, she made little effort to actively engage w/your son.
Skinny or obese - that would bother me.

Op. I work from home. That's the only reason I think driving may be necessary but right now my husband does not feel comfortable with the nanny driving.

Op here with an update. So the nanny sat on the sofa the entire time (3 hours ) reading books and going through animal flash cards. My son was really happy with her. Maybe I can just view this as his tutoring time?

Good luck finding a ton of other applicants jumping at the opportunity to work 9 hrs a week.

Op here. I actually had tons of applicants. There were 25 people who emailed me back.

If you had 25 people apply you have the pick of the litter. I'm sure 25 people would show up for an interview. *shrug*

I did not schedule an interview with 25 people. I scheduled an interview with one applicant. I know you may not be interested in the job but there were lots of people interested. I took my job post down after 2 days because I was getting so many emails. If you're not going to be helpful then please find something else to do.

Finding someone to work with a parent who works from home is not easy. I say keep her.

This, especially if your son enjoys it. 3 hours is a looooong time to sit, though. I suspect he's going to be more rambunctious in the future.

Why did you hire the first person you talked to?

OP, I'm a morbidly obese nanny-I'll just be straight up, losing weight and now to 308, height is 5'3- and in the 12 years I've been nannying-and always obese- have always been able to find positions and gigs for date nights/etc through Care.com and word of mouth. I actually love taking kids to activities though, and don't have kids.

I really hope my changed eating habits will give me more energy, as I know I can do much better. I really think some parents may partially hire me because they know I'd never be attractive to any husbands, ha. I understand your concern and would probably feel similarly if I had an active kid, so don't feel bad but please just be polite if not hiring her, just like with any other candidate.

Op. My son did not sit the entire time. He played with toys and she talked to him.

It's 9 hours a week. It went well. Unless and until you become dissatisfied with what she's doing, I'd be fine with it.

You should stay home with your child. You sound awful.

The op is already staying home with her child. She works from home. Expecting a nanny to be active does not make her an awful person and she did hire the obese nanny.

LOL ok OP. I HIGHLY doubt she sat on the couch for 3 hours and didn’t move. He didn’t need a diaper change or to use the potty at any point? Didn’t need a drink or snack? Stop trying to cause shi*.

Either way it sounds like the nanny wasn't active. This would be a concern. Toddlers need to be active so they take a nap! Op has every right to be concerned. It sounds like there are lots of defensive overweight nannies on this forum. News flash being overweight doesn't mean lazy but in op's case it DOES.
