How much to pay for 5 kids? RSS feed

Anonymous
a friend of mine who sits for a family of three for $20 an hour was asked to sit during a party of theirs. the other families brought their nannies and kids and their nannies were invited to sit with the adults, eat with them, etc, while she looked after all the kids. needless to say, she never sat for them again.
i would want $30-$40 an hour or i wouldn't consider it, personally. not worth the headache.

I agree that $30 seems fair, though would be a bit low if it wasn’t bedtime, so I would up it to $200 for the evening.

At least $30. Maybe even more. I would actually hire two babysitters for five children that young who aren't used to being together. Perhaps your sitter has a friend you know.

That's silly. I used to be a teacher's aide and can wrangle a class of 30 kids by myself. Five kids for six hours? They'll all be asleep by 9pm at the latest anyway. One sitter, $25 is plenty.

You have no clue what these kids are like or how well or ill behaved they are! Glad you are so confident.

I can wrangle even the most wild kid. I'm good at dealing with kids.

Great for you! Babysit at whatever date you want! The overwhelming opinion here is that $30 is the minimum.

$30 is min, sure, but how high it goes depends entirely on how late they'll be up, imo. If they are all in bed by 8pm, then I think $30 is fine. If they are a wild bunch with no structure and go to bed late, yeah, jack that up to $40, at least.

We pay 20 for our 4. Don't think we'd pay extra for a guest.
