Exactly my point! They ordered me without even asking if I could. They expect me to drive MY car and to take them to the airport. When it comes up again, I’m going to tell them I can drop them off in THEIR car and I am not available to pick them up. I’m also going to tell them know that next time they travel if they can ASK me if I’m available for something that is Out of my job description

Good for you for sticking up for yourself. Keep us informed, please.

Most people I know hire nannies because they want a household team and a little flexibility. They give you flexibility. They are even paying you for a week where your job will be really light and then you still have paid vacation. But you can’t be a little flexible? It’s one day of your life. Are you really going to suffer that much from going to bed late ONE night?

While I very much agree with you, and as a nanny I am highly flexible with my family. I am actually driving 5 hours round trip to pick up my NF’s relatives on a weekend. First, I am ASKED and can absolutely say no. Additionally, I receive good benefits and would never accept a position that I had to work when the family is on vacation. The OP was told that she would be doing something both out of her job scope as well as outside of her hours. It also appears that the OP only gets one week of vacation time. My guess is that her pay and benefits package is not top of the line (obviously, given the vacation situation discussed) and while they provide her with flexibility, the family knew that going in and likely pays accordingly. OP absolutely does not owe her NF this request/demand. I would decline simply because of the way they handled it.

OP, since you are working that week, I agree with the suggestion that you drop their car off during working hours and they can pay for your Uber home. It is a fair compromise. Additionally, I am curious as to what your tasks for the week are.

tasks are all home related which they asked me if I was willing to do in the interview (they had this vacation planned for months). I agreed because I also asked for my own paid vacation time. however, the reason I am no willing to drive them is because of the way they told me. they didn't ask. they didn't consider my thoughts. they demanded. I was never told in the interview that I would have to drive them.

they expect me to come in that dat around 3 pm and leave at 12 pm. then come again in the morning? no thank you. they can drive themselves. [b] as I have mentioned more then once its not about being flexible; its about the way they told me that I was going to drop off/pick up. they basically ordered me and never even asked me. they just told me I would be doing that.

Are you serious?! A nanny isn’t your personal chauffeur. They provide care for CHILDREN. If you want someone who is a maid, Butler, chauffeur, nanny, household mananger, etc then you pay accordingly for that. No, I would not take my boss to the airport nor would they even ask. But the families I work with are professionals and do not blur lines.

You’re not their chauffeur, you’re their nanny. They can’t figure out a way to get themselves to and from the airport like plenty of other families do when going on vacation? My nanny family does. How ridiculous.

I would decline picking them up.

So why didn’t you say no?

I was surprised when the father told me and right when he told me he had to go out and the oldest child was calling me. So it wasn’t until now that I thought about it. Next time I’ll make sure to decline right away.

So how many weeks of paid vacation do you get?
The norm is 2 weeks, one week of your choice and one of theirs. Are you getting 2 weeks outside of this time they are taking?

Hi, yes I am. They are traveling to Spain for a week in the fall and I am taking my vacation In December

I get it you are annoyed. They should have asked instead of demanded.

But it comes down to this. If you decline in a huff, they may very well decide to find another nanny.

Is this a good job you want to keep? or are there lots of other jobs at your current or better pay rate and flexibility?

To me you sound immature. Working til 12 and then again at 8am? Yeah, that's why I and many other professional and non-professional employees have to do on occasion for work.

Well my work doesn’t and should require me to work like especially if they are demanding things. Fact of the matter is, I wouldn’t have declined if they consulted with me.

Are YOU serious? Driving and picking up from the airport ONE TIME doesn't make you a chauffeur. It makes you an awesome, helpful, valuable employee who has critical thinking skills like - "hey - I recognize that getting to and from the airport with young kids is really stressful because of the car seat situation, and I'm going to go the extra mile to help them because I'm part of this village too."

Op said they ordered her. She's totally in the right here. You have to demand respect op. These people sound awful.
