Someone who is willing to come here and work "undocumented" is a criminal. They have already shown they are ok with breaking the law. What other laws will they be ok with breaking? Maybe they are ok with using heroin? Maybe they are ok with beating your child? Maybe they are ok with child porn? Maybe they are ok with stealing your things? Why not? They have already proven that they do not respect the law.

Wow.....
The above quote sounds like something our President would say.
So just because someone fled their impoverished + corrupt country to seek a better life and support their family,
you are linking them in the same category as a child abuser, common thief & a drug user.

get a legal nanny. I don't think undocumented people are any more likely to use drugs or beat your kids or any of those hypotheticals, but the what ifs that weigh on my mind are more along the lines of...
-what if there is an emergency? Will they hesitate to go to the police due to fear of being reported? (Or even just because they can't communicate)
-if they DO actually do something illegal or dangerous, will I have recourse to hold them accountable? Or will it be easier and better for them to disappear? Legal US residents would find it difficult and stand to lose a lot if they try to vanish -- can't use their cars, DLs, credit cards, etc as those can be tracked. I don't really know what the case is like for undocumented people.

This is why we ( especially DH) would not even consider employing an undocumented nanny. Although we know a lot of people who do it.

I am not going to do it - I am just curious. DH is in the Military, btw.

Of course, you aren't!

What about the people like OP who hire them? They are US citizens and breaking the law. Should we throw them in jail and take away their kids?

Yes

NP. And that time you went 31mph in a 30? We should just lock up ALL the criminals, including you in your sanctimonious glass house.
