How will you feel if one of them gets into an accident and KILLS someone?
Would you really be able to look their victim's family member in the eye and justify your choice to enable this criminal behavior?

How am I enabling? I’ve done everything I can to try and change this situation, including rearranging my work schedule and giving her paid time off to go to the dmv with her kids. These are not my children or my employees.

You gave her the money to fix up the car so her kids could continue to illegally drive it!

If the kids hurt someone while driving and don’t have a license, isn’t that a criminal issue? They are green card holders, not citizens so if they commit a crime, deportation is a likely consequence, isn’t it?

And whatever “insurance” they have on the car would not be valid for an unlicensed driver, correct?

I used to have a lot of compassion for them since they are new here but that is quickly evaporating because I have tried so many times to tell them this is a big deal and why and also given her PAID TIME OFF to try and get this sorted and they just kinda don’t care.

And if it happens on federal land - BW Parkway, GW Parkway, and similar, it becomes a federal criminal issue.

I’d be concerned about hiring someone to care for my child when the person shows little respect for laws, rules, and regulations. And I definitely wouldn’t be lending her money - that makes you complicit in her malfeasance.

+1 You should have declined the request for the loan.

She is not illegal and has a green card.

Then why would are you worried about deportation?

Green card holders can be deported if they commit crimes.

I’m not complicit. She asked for a small loan and I agreed. Maybe she’s using it to fix the car and will then sell it, maybe her kids will get their licenses before they drive it again, etc. It’s not my place to get that up in her business.

You voiced your concerns and told her the consequences. Its her own stupidity that she is continuing to let them drive with no,license. Whatever happens she deserves it.

I think you are a horse's patoot. She asked for a loan not a lecture. Give her loan or not but no lecture
I hope she finds a new gig.

I forgot--I do not believe this ludicrous story.

She shows horrible judgement.

I would back away from her personal life.

Poor judgement on her part.
what's the big deal with drivers ed or getting a license?
never give loans to nannies. messy.

She is showing incredibly poor judgment. I don’t think I could trust her to be a nanny anymore.
