- 2.5 y/o and 4 m/o
- 45-50 hours per week - including 2-3 overnights per month due to parents' work schedules
- Daytime hours (except overnights) - toddler goes to school during AM
- Other than the overnights, we don't have any non-standard requirements.
- Housing: 500 sq ft nanny suite with separate living area, bedroom, and full bath. Separate entrance, off street parking, internet/cable/utilities included.

What is the hourly rate we should offer?
Would it be feasible to offer flat weekly stipend?

Thanks

not sure who you are, certainly not a live in caretaker.
many live-ins get a 15*12' BR only.
500 sq. ft. Is very small and hardly an incentive unless the person is homeless.

+1 Lol
Fabulous my ass.

If 2 kids are normally 850-950 a week live out I'd do 2/3s of that for live in. or half if you are providing all the food and amenities plus living arrangement.

your living arrangement for nanny en suite sounds fabulous.

Appreciate your feedback. Those rates for a live-in are right about what we anticipated. We got really lucky with the en suite set-up here - it was definitely designed with nanny/in-laws in mind!

$7/hr for 3 kids?
OP, are you eligible to hire a G4 nanny? That is an insanely low rate and involves very special circumstances. No American nanny, or even immigrant nanny with the right to legally work, will take such a low wage.

Would you consider and Au pair?

An Au pair would not work for OP because he needs 3 overnights each month, plus 45-50 hrs per week, and au pairs can't go over 45.

Well I'm an Au Pair and I was enquiring. Was a question for the OP

Then you should already know this is not within the bounds of the program.

Arrangements can be made as to not go outside of au pair working hours. Myself and another Au pair have been fortunate in this with previous families.

You need to be aware that if you plan to pay legally and use a payroll service, you cannot offer less than minimum wage.

If you offer $7/hour, no payroll service will work with you, since enabling you to pay less than minimum wage means they are breaking the law right along with you.

Plus, no nanny with experience and/or access to a peer group will take less than minimum wage.

And before you tell me how amazing that 500 sq ft suite is, it doesn't matter. If nanny is a live in for YOUR convenience, the maximum room and board deduction from legal wages is around $135/week. It's federal law.

Don't act like you got such a good deal. You are paying that rate because you or your spouse work for an international organization and your nanny's salary is in line with domestic worker's salaries in her country of origin. You also are required to pay for accommodation, food, medical and travel expenses for her as well. Have you calculated that in you rate above? This is no different from the Aupair program, except that G4 nanny program isn't that closely monitored until when a nanny reports abuse by the family. I have heard of nannies complaining that they have become gardeners, car washers, chefs and even required to work late through the night and weekend caring for multiple children. Most of these families abuse the girls because they know the nanny is far away from home and knows no one nearby to help out. A friend of mine's travel documents were hidden from her. Can you imagine? This program should be terminated or improved because so many families are down right horrendous to live with or even work for. Paying a person $7/h is nothing to be gloating about in 2017 in the D.C area where minimum wage is more than twice that.

I am the pp poster. The G4 visa is also only available for foreign employees of world bank and IMF so even if you are working there and but are US citizen, you wouldn't qualify. I am not sure why this person is advertising it here since it is so exclusive and people would normally bring their nanny with them on the program if they hired her overseas and have a special bond with her.

Live in nanny rates vary tremendously. We pay our live in nanny $15 an hour, plus provide a car/ gas/ food/ utilities, etc. We also pay for 2 college classes a semester. We guarantee 40 hr a week, and pay overtime for anything over 40. We never ask her to do overnights, and only very occasionally ask for an evening, which we arrange in advance and she is free to decline (e.g. she gets first choice of extra sitting, but we will hire someone else if she is not available.
She has her own bedroom and bathroom on a separate floor than the rest of the family.
$7 an hour is slave labor rates.
