Really, if I hired a sitter for 6:30 I would probably expect her to eat before coming. It's not your bosses problem that you have other plans before.

Why would you expect someone to have eaten dinner so early when you yourself would be leaving for dinner? Op isn't arriving at 8. Jeesh some of you are insane.

Because she is being paid to watch children, not to eat her dinner. If the work hours completely envelope typical "dinner hours," such as 3 pm-9 pm--then OF COURSE I would expect the babysitter to eat during the work hours. But if my own kids can eat before 6:30 pm, it's not unreasonable to think an adult babysitter can as well.

Perhaps you can't manage watching your kids while having a meal, but most nannies certainly can, and should.

Eat while they're having the movie. Be stealth if you have to. And just because mom lets them stay up until 830 doesn't mean you have to. Movie then bed even if it's 8. By the time you brush teeth and read it will be close to 830 anyway.

No one will think it's weird if an evening babysitter comes over from a class (or another job) with her own dinner. No one. I am just thrilled that someone I can trust with my children has showed up on time so that I can do whatever I need to do.

Ask the mom if she can leave some fruit and cheese out in case they get hungry or want to eat while you eat.
