I imagine there is more to this story (i.e. the other side). Before you go for rematch, start with trying to talk about your concerns with HPs. You don't say you've done that. "can we talk? I am concerned about following the rules of the program. My shifts should not be longer than 10 hours. . . I feel like the kids should have some time outside. What can we do to make you feel at ease about letting me take them to the part or the library?"
If that conversation doesn't help, time to bring in the LCC. Try again. If that doesn't work, request rematch. |
I agree - talk with the host family. The eleven hours are a violation. Make sure they know that- they should, but maybe they're disorganized. The chores are too much. Our au pair emptied the dishwasher as a community responsibility-- everything else was child related cleaning (picking up toys or doing kids laundry). The host family is taking advantage of you and breaking the rules - speak up. If it doesn't improve- complain to your agency and rematch. |
| Rematch. Way too many rules being broken. Expecting AP to sit inside with two toddlers for 11 hours is inhumane! I am sure there are families and APs out there who do three long days but then in exchange give the AP three full days off or something like that and it is mutally a good deal. This is not the case. |
| Yep rematch - anyone wilfully violating so many obvious rules is not going to respond kindly to requests for change. And if you do want to stay for the rest of your extension year, please match on what you want in a family first and then secondly on location. Not that location shouldn't be a factor at all, but it should be second to a good fit with the family. Good luck! |

Please don't put this young woman's desire to live in a different location as the reason for her situation. Young people have dreams of living in various places, goingto XYZ university, etc...completely normal! This HF is absolutely breaking all the rules and this has nothing to do with location. These HFs are the reason this program may collapse.
AP...rematch. What you are describing is too far gone...your HF is violating all of the major rules. |

Someone bumped this thread from Feb. I am sure the AP has already moved on or something. Not sure why it was bumped...
