Good point. There is a favorable self-selection at play - lazy nannies won't want to be on camera looking at their phone all day or ignoring kids.

Some nannies don't want to be watched by perverts. These cameras can be hacked.

I've told every nanny we've had during the interview that I have cameras in my house. That is important for transparency sake. This would also prevent the nanny from maltreating your child when they know that there is a possibility that they are being watched. I think that anyone who out-rightly does not want to work with cameras is up to no good. js

so many secured types to pick from

But if I got one of those cheapo generic frequency ones, then even better! then the pervert can watch the footage and call my office line if/when the nanny is shirking.

I am a nanny and I like cameras in the house. Like a Nanny PP said, I want the parents to see how hard I work. However, please do not think for a second that a camera will stop a nanny from mistreating or ignoring your child. I think all SAHMs and Good Nannies will tell you about the bad nannies in the park, library, music class... A bad nanny will be stopped from mistreating your child in camera view only.

If some pervert wants to watch me read Green Eggs and Ham four times a day, let him at it. I am a nanny taking care of a child -- what is to see?

Not everyone wants to be filmed and watched by who knows whom.

You might not be so cavalier if they put photos of your children on a pedophile chat room with your address.

We plan to have cameras installed in the house, not to watch the nanny all the time (we have demanding jobs and wouldn't have time for that), but to check in periodically for 30 seconds a couple times a day. The better daycare centers have cameras constantly monitoring the kids that parents can watch at anytime, for us this is no different. I want to be honest with whomever we hire so they aren't put off when they see them there. They will not be hidden. And if they are not comfortable with that they have the option not to take the job. For nannies out there -- what is the best way to share this with potential candidates?

Our wonderful nanny insisted we get nanny cameras! Just be honest with the candidates.
