We are paying $18 an hour and ot and taxes. It'll come out to hair about $3k a month. I had a ton of good qualified candidates that I interviewed. All Legal, some us born, with experience and driving. DC suburb. If I could up it to $20 and hr I would get childhood education degrees too.

Stop lying. 3k ( $18) is a very fair rate. Stop trying to inflate the wages and vacation. Three weeks of vacation is very fair. Most only get two weeks.

NP. You are an a$$. All you know is what you earn. Period.

I earn much more than that. I was former nanny and now a Pharmacist. I made around 3-3500k/month. I now make 140/k a year. I'm doing fine, sweetheart. I'm sick of families that pay too low, and nannies who overcharge for $25/hour. $18 is more than fair for one single child. You work with older kids. I worked exclusively with children from 0 - 3 years of age ( most around 0 - 12 months). It's not that hard of work.

Not a very good nanny if you topped out at $18.

Exactly. She sounds more like a 17 year old babysitter, and certainly not a career nanny.

You can never be the best, if you don't love your work.

I was a career nanny initially but I left for a better job and income. Being a nanny is not a stable income. I was a nanny for 9 years. I worked with 3 families during that time. Very high-powered families. I was highly recommended and loved my job. As I matured, I realized I did not want to be stuck at a low wage job for life. I did not want to raise someone else kids after having my own. I made 60k/year part-time after having my baby. We have a nanny and compensate her very well.

You seem to have learning to do. Just because someone moves to another career, it doesn't mean they weren't good at the former. It simply means they grew and matured past that. Being a nanny is a very isolating and complacent job. It's the same thing each day, with no advancements. You will never transition to a high paying job with only nanny experience. Go get a degree and get an education. One day you will be too old for a family and they will replace you with a younger nanny. Sad but true in the nanny world.

So which is it? Are you sick of nannies overcharging @ $25/hr or were you making $60k part time (which is way above $25/hr). How many stories are you trying to keep straight?

Were talking about DC here. Any nanny that works all day long M-F is making over $4k at least.

This isn't what I've heard. Many friends have hired nannies because it's a similar cost to daycare. Around 500-1000 more a month and it gives you a lot more flexibility.

How do you figure that a good full-time nanny can be only an extra $500/month over daycare?? You must be confused.

I understand daycare is around 2.5k - 3k.

In some cities (eg NY) it's actually cheaper to have a nanny than daycare.

Clearly you can't read ( hence why you need to go get an education). I said I made around 3-3500k a month when I was a nanny. As a Pharmacist, I make 140k/year, but I made 60k ( part-time) as a Pharmacist after having a baby. That was an example to show I still made nearly twice as much as I did in my nanny career, working part-time as a pharmacist. Now do you get it?

I'm starting to explore childcare options. If we were to go with a nanny for an 8 month old, what's the going rate for the following:

8 - 5 three days a week
9 - 4 two days a week

Three paid weeks of vacation
On the books

I'm hoping it's somewhere around 3k a month.

You mean average, right? There's no "going" rate.

OK so you did top out at the lower end of the spectrum like the other poster pointed out. Other nannies are making what you were making as a pharmacist. Just because you underpay doesn't mean everyone will.

No. I made a fair wage of $20 per hour. Nannies do not make 140k a year.

DC nannies can start out making what you started out making as a pharmacist. And many of us do make over $100k. Depends on your skills and recommendations.

The vast majority of nannies do not make 100k per year. If so everyone would want to be a nanny. Heck it would be a major in college

So which is it? Are you sick of nannies overcharging @ $25/hr or were you making $60k part time (which is way above $25/hr). How many stories are you trying to keep straight?

Clearly you can't read ( hence why you need to go get an education). I said I made around 3-3500k a month when I was a nanny. As a Pharmacist, I make 140k/year, but I made 60k ( part-time) as a Pharmacist after having a baby. That was an example to show I still made nearly twice as much as I did in my nanny career, working part-time as a pharmacist. Now do you get it?

OK so you did top out at the lower end of the spectrum like the other poster pointed out. Other nannies are making what you were making as a pharmacist. Just because you underpay doesn't mean everyone will.

No. I made a fair wage of $20 per hour. Nannies do not make 140k a year.

DC nannies can start out making what you started out making as a pharmacist. And many of us do make over $100k. Depends on your skills and recommendations.

Clearly you still can't read! I didn't start out making $60k. I started out making $140k, but made 60k went I went to part-time. I know several nannies and families who employ nannies. Not one of them makes over 50k per year.

In that case, you don't know me. But that's a good thing.

Same here. Seems like theres at least a handful of ~100,000$ nannies on this board, yet she doesn't know any and is sure they don't exist!

Anonymous wrote:$3000 a month for full time work is really low in this area. I work 15 hours a week for older kids that aren't nearly as much work as an 8 month old and make over $2000 a month. Plus I get more vacation than that.

Yep. If she could afford that kind of nanny, I doubt she'd have much time to waste here.

I'm sure her nanny doesn't speak English since she is only making $140,000. Between the nanny and the house she won't have any left to eat!

PP here. I'm not going to get into a battle on here. I spoke my opinion, and called that nanny out because she clearly needed a reading lesson. My nanny is English speaking, 10+ years of experience, and has a degree. We pay our nanny well. $20 take-home, plus OT, and bonuses. My husband makes 600k+, and we millions in our savings. We are doing just fine, with plenty to eat, and pay nannies.
