Paying full-time for a flexible part-time nanny? RSS feed

If you were willing to let a SAHM with her own kid do it (and bring a similarly aged child) you could definitely fill he position. Up to you if they would be worth it.

I think the big issue that you are going to run into is that the type of people who will be attracted to this job are those with a low work ethic who will be banking on it being an easy gig with lots of time off. I would not want any of those people caring for my child. Nannies who are more professional/experienced/responsible will likely balk at the idea of this job because, ask someone else said, it could easily turn into you demanding a different schedule every week for what is we are in though pay if you are actually using all of the hours. What I would do if I were in your position, is I would hire a nanny to work, say, three days per week. And then actually use her for all of those days, even if you are not working yet. Find someone who is comfortable working with a work at home/stay at home parent. Early on she can help you to get baby on a schedule, sleep train, etc. When your kid is older, she can help you baby proof and watch the baby during naps so that you can run errands or go to the gym. And, of course, as your work ramps you will already have childcare in place that would cover most of the hours that you would need. If you find that you need more time on a certain week, you can ask her if she is available, or hire a sitter. It is going to be much less disruptive to your child to have random sitters here in there most of the time they have the same consistent person.

I was just going to say: as a student, I would have killed for this arrangement. I take night classes and was looking for something flexible but consistent for a while before I found something similar (not the same, but close). You should have no problems, OP, and definitely ignore the folks on here who claim all nannies will insist on higher wages than what you are offering. Babies sleep a lot. If you will let a student do her homework while the baby is sleeping, you should have a ton of people who will jump at this.

Perhaps you don't understand the fact that different people have different rates, often dependent on many factors.

Huh? Of course I do. My point was, as opposed to all the wingnuts on this forum who insist that every nanny gets paid 50k or more a year, there are plenty of us who look for flexible schedules in exchange for a lower rate.

Perhaps you could do with a reading comprehension class?
